The area above today's Marina Grande, from where Morgenstern captured the view, was still undeveloped in 1835. The east coast of the isle of Capri with the Tiberius Rock lies in the cool morning light. A small wave breaks here and sends a reflection of light to the viewer. Two tiny sailing boats emphasise the distance. Further to the east, the Sorrentine Peninsula lies in the morning mist. A fig tree is placed in the Painting as a repoussoir. As in other paintings, Morgenstern did not finish the bottom right-hand corner. The illusion of the landscape is thus broken by the reality of the unpainted corner.
