The municipality of Ariccia is located in the south of Rome. The palazzo has been owned by the Chigi family since 1661. With the acquisition of the property (previously owned by Savelli), extensive changes were made under Gian Lorenzo Bernini and his pupil Carlo Fontana. The baroque ensemble, including a collection of paintings, was already an attraction at the time. Bürkel was already fascinated by the architecture in its symbiosis with the vegetation and the natural play of light on the ascent.
