Free spaces. 110 Ways to encounter the World

In August 1820, Jakob Wilhelm Huber, who had already been working successfully in Italy for several years and was well connected in Naples, was introduced to the newly arrived Johan Christian Dahl, who was working intensively on the oil study. Both worked together, but the study of Lacco Ameno on Ischia was probably created independently. Lacco Ameno was a spa town and famous for the mushroom-shaped rock in the harbour entrance. In keeping with the physical perception of looking into the distance, Huber skips the foreground in a modern-looking manner. The study would probably have been unsalable in its day.
