Free spaces. 110 Ways to encounter the World

The inspiration for the etching with the young artist resting on the ground and his old guide probably came from the same hike as Johann Adam Klein's depiction of the artists travelling. Erhard himself can be assumed to be the young artist. Soon afterwards, he set off for Italy with Heinrich Reinhold, the expansive gesture matching the departure into the distance. This is an early print from the printing plate; the landscape depiction on the left, rotated by 90 degrees, was later removed. The copper printing plate with The old Man in front of the Cane bridge belongs to the same series of etchings.
