When Faber travelled to Rome for the second time in 1816, the German painters there were often a generation younger than him. Heinrich Reinhold was close to him both artistically and personally. They worked together near Olevano, the destination of many artists in the mountains east of Rome. Faber noted on the back of the sheet: ‘Olevano im Latiner Gebirge, 12 Stunden von Rom‘ (Olevano in the Latin Mountains, 12 hours from Rome). The last row of houses can be seen on the right, the gaze wanders over the Santuario della SS. Annunziata to Monte Guadagnolo. The characteristic colours of the painting on paper are determined by the warm tones of the rocks, walls and vegetation.
