Warm light falls from the top right into the almond-shaped cave entrance. The precise light modulation emphasises the layering of the organic rock. The superimposition and form of the cave suggest the interpretation of an Orcus pharynx or, as the so-called Ear of Dionysus, an ancient quarry in Sicily, lead to legends. Rebell shows four perspectives through the three staffage figures and the location of his drawing: the view in and out, the interaction with nature and its monumentality.
