With Johan Christian Dahl and Thomas Fearnley the Stephan-Collection also includes Norwegian artists. Louis Gurlitt, however, came from Altona, but studied in Copenhagen and travelled from there to Norway several times. The country was barely present in the landscape painting of the time. But more and more artists were increasingly attracted by the impressive fjord landscapes. In Gurlitt's oil Study, the house and shed on the shore of the bright fjord glow in the warm evening light. The scene is unspectacular, without ignoring the characteristics of the landscape and rich in detail on closer inspection.
