Workshops and Masters

Juncker’s portrayal of a successful painter’s workshop of the mid-18th century is animated and detailed. While the master himself invites his female visitor to continue her portrait sitting, apprentices and journeymen are busy grinding pigments, drawing, and studying engravings. Juncker combines the picturesquely draped implements with a stately space and a scene of figures, thus uniting the still life, interior, and genre scene.
