At his desk in the sunlight, he is so engrossed in observation that he does not notice his slipping stocking. The activity continues around him, on the easel a portrait is being produced, on the wall hangs a landscape. The scene offers a glimpse into the artist’s workshop with its daily tasks between breadwinning and art ideal.
