The richly decorated “coronation shield” against the window façade was made for the election and coronation of Joseph II in Frankfurt in 1764. Below the portrait medallion of Joseph II can be seen a view of the city of Frankfurt am Main from the West. The top is taken up by the double-headed eagle with the imperial insignia.

Johann Wolfgang followed the magnificent coronation ceremonies with great interest and describes them in Poetry and Truth.
