Clemens in plaster
In her sonnet, Sophie Brentano describes and interprets the plaster bust of her husband Clemens. The text was first published in Bunte Reihe kleiner Schriften, a collection combining her adaptations of early German texts with poems of her own. The volume is dedicated to Brentano’s grandmother, the writer Sophie von La Roche.
Visible on the left are the final two verses of a sonnet to Achim von Arnim. The sonnet about Brentano’s portrait starts on the right.
