The aphorism collection Faith and Love was written at around the same time. Friedrich Schlegel helped Novalis to place it in Yearbooks of the Prussian Monarchy. The second part of the collection, shown here, appeared after a poem by August Wilhelm Schlegel that paid homage to the king. Censors blocked publication of the third part. According to Friedrich Schlegel, Friedrich Wilhelm III complained that “more is demanded of a king than
he is capable of delivering”.
