The Boy’s Magic Horn

As the lack of a volume number on the title page shows, the collection of songs compiled by Achim von Arnim and Clemens Brentano was not initially planned as a multivolume work. However, because the two editors collected more texts than they could fit between the covers of a single book and The Boy’s Magic Horn quickly made them famous, they soon hit on the idea of a sequel. The first volume was published in 1805 but was dated 1806. The second and third volumes did not appear until three years later.
