Next to the stove can be seen the portrait of Leopold Heinrich Pfeil, painted in 1789. He first was secretary to Goethe’s father before being hired as instructor in French and tutoring Johann Wolfgang and Cornelia Goethe. After marrying a cousin of Goethe’s father, the couple opened a boarding school for English and French students on Großer Hirschgraben.
