Shortly after arriving in Dresden, the three Schlegels wrote to their friend Novalis, urging him to visit them soon so that they could all go to the picture gallery together. The collective nature of the letter echoes the Schlegels’ collaboration on the Athenaeum journal. August Wilhelm added the byname “The Athenaean” (“ΑΘHΝΑΙΟΣ”)
to his signature.
